It’s a popular plot device: the heroine who’s certain she wants the good-looking, sweet-talking charmer, then ends up living happily ever after with the understated, solid type. Real estate, it turns out, sometimes has a similar story line.
Consider Julie Morgenstern, who was absolutely convinced when she left Brooklyn a dozen or so years ago that she wanted a two-bedroom with lots of light on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, then went and fell for a Midtown West lobby-level one-bedroom. “It forced me to pare down,” she said.
