Can we do it, could we survive?
While on a trip to Telluride, Shannon and her husband identified a true passion for backpacking and belief that being outside and connected with nature could transform someone’s life. With that discovery, they started a small backpacking ministry at their church. There was a noticeable transformation in themselves and others who participated, which led to their desire to turn this small initiative into a business. After asking themselves if they could this and
After asking themselves if they could do this and if they could survive, even if they had to move into their parents’ basement to make it work, would they still do it? As the answer was an easy YES. Shannon and her husband set out to scale the concept in 2013. And this is how Expedition Backcountry Adventures was born.
Since then, Expedition Backcountry Adventures (EBA) has been offering retreats, wilderness trips, and educational backpacking trips for individuals and groups including corporate retreats and youth in schools. The goal remains the same: help people realize what their purpose, what they were meant to do, and what’s holding them back. “We want people to step into the fullness of what they were created to be through the retreat, wilderness, and outdoor education experiences.
Life is a Journey…
Shannon has learned to take risk from the moment she was wait-listed for her dream college. With encouragement from her father, Shannon went to Texas A&M and left with the President’s office a pamphlet she’d created, describing why she would be a great fit for the university. She made several great contacts along the way. Later that day she received a call saying she was accepted. Since then she is driven by the lessons this experience taught her: “Don’t be intimidated, believe in yourself and realize that there are humans behind company logos or any other source of intimidation. So take away all of the intimidation factors and just for it! What do you have to lose by trying?”
We loved this, along with Shannon’s spirit and contagious energy!
Thank you, Shannon, for sharing your story — and of course, Thank You to you, the Changemaker community for joining us.
We look forward to seeing you in October. Stay tuned for details on our next event!
